Friendly service, spectacular coffee. Clean, efficient, and a steady stream of people in and out — poached eggs, toast and a coffee for seventeen dollars.

Came back four times in one week in Cairns, and would return to the city just to eat here again. On the Big Breakfast Number 2 — the mushrooms are to die for.

Home-made food and generous portions in a no-frills room with friendly staff. The frittata, the soup and the orange almond cake all got singled out. One regret: I did not discover this cafe sooner.

The radiology team across the road sends people over for the coffee. We’re quietly pleased about that.

What we do

A proper Cairns cafe. Nothing reheated, nothing frozen.

Cakes, biscuits, quiches, scones and dressings — all made here in our kitchen. Nothing arrives in a box.

Breakfast

Cooked how you want it

Five Big Breakfasts, four Benedicts, ten three-egg omelettes. Turkish, rye and gluten free bread on the counter.

Lunch

Never quite the same

Salads, burgers, focaccias and sandwiches on the regular menu — plus new dishes on the specials board every single month.

Coffee & cakes

Baked this morning

Premium beans, a barista who knows what they’re doing, and a cabinet of cakes, slices and shortbread made in our kitchen.

Catering

Baked here

Baked fresh, every morning.

Carrot cake, lemon cheesecake, macadamia shortbread, orange and almond cake, and the jam drop biscuits we’re named after. All made in our kitchen. Nothing arrives in a box.

Twenty-five years on Lake Street. Eggs cooked how you asked, plates that arrive full, and coffee worth the walk. There’s a verandah out front and a sea breeze most days.
